Strawberry Scones (when in season)
These summertime scones are moist and tender, filled with pieces of sweet strawberries. They are delicious for breakfast or an afternoon snack. These scones are made with King Arthur unbleached flour, fresh eggs, unsalted butter, whipping cream, fresh strawberries, granulated sugar, and coarse sanding sugar. They are sprinkled with sanding sugar before baking to add a slight crunch to each bite. Alternatively, the scones can be painted with a confectioner's sugar/vanilla/cream glaze for a slightly sweeter flavor.
Scones are best served the same day, but unglazed scones can be refreshed in a warm oven for 5-10 minutes. They should be kept in an airtight container at room temperature. Unglazed scones can also be frozen (individually) for later use.
